Paul Cho is a character in the Netflix series, Beef. He is Danny Cho's younger brother.
Biography[]
Paul is Danny's younger brother. Paul constantly tries to distance himself from his sibling, because they have a strained relationship. Danny disapproves of Paul's attempts to make money, like investing in crypto. Paul is a flirt, and loves to chat with women. He starts talking to a girl named "Kayla" online, who turns out to be Amy Lau, catfishing him with photos of her assistant, Mia.
Paul tries to find Kayla at her place of work, but he meets Amy instead, who confesses she is behind Kayla's profile. They both kiss each other, and Paul is intrigued with it. He goes to Las Vegas after Amy tells him she's going there for work. They spend a friendly night together, getting high, and eating expensive fruit.
Danny and Isaac Cho Isaac both track down Paul's phone to Las Vegas, and they both try to beat him up to get Danny's car keys back. Paul is frustrated by his brother and pushes him away.
Paul meets Amy again, and they both have a one-night stand together. He asks her for loans, but eventually calls her a "bitch" when she tells him becoming rich isn't easy. She tells him to leave, and they end their relationship there.
Paul is upset over the breakup. He works for his brother, but stays at home alone often. Eventually one night, Danny comes in with June, Amy's daughter. Paul is confused, but Danny tells him to call Amy and that June is safe. However, Paul and Danny both get taken by Isaac. They both try to comfort June and distract her from what's going on. Isaac takes them to Jordan's house to rob her, but leaves Paul, Danny, and June in the car. Paul and Danny both deployed June to get inside of Amy's car, where George knows to get her.
However, Paul and Danny both then get forced inside at gunpoint by Isaac. Isaac puts them outside, while he deals with the robbery. After the police arrives, a shootout ensues. As he vaults over a wall with the help of Danny, his brother then confesses his selfish actions to keep Paul in his life forever, such as falsifying Amy's role in the burning of their parents' home and discarding Paul's college applications. A sour Paul then hops over the wall, just as police are heard approaching, demanding that he must be placed under arrest. Footsteps are heard, followed by gunshots, as Danny presumes his brother is dead. In the end, Paul, still furious at his brother's manipulation, texts Danny on his phone to get out of his life by blocking him.
Physical appearance[]
Paul is tall with an athletic build. He is Asian-American with a tall height of about 6, short black hair, and fair skin. He often dresses in street wear.
Personality[]
Since his introduction, Paul has been portrayed as somewhat of a nuisance. He is rather ungrateful towards his brother Danny, and has a oversimplified understanding of the struggles of becoming successful, or in Amy's case, wealthy. He also has a common flaw of saying things without consideration, which often causes him problems, such as ridiculing his cousin, Isaac, or outright disrespecting Amy. He is not without his positive attributes, as it is shown that he truly does respect and appreciate his brother, showing excitement for naming their company and building their parents home together for 8 months. Paul is also rather vain, as he finds himself to be at an elevated status compared to everyone around him, including Danny (despite the fact Paul neither owns his brother's apartment nor pays rent), berating him for his lack of success and unhappiness. Part of his inflated ego is his attractiveness, exercising often and being naturally charming, much to his brother's chagrin.
Paul's relationship with Amy is one to note, as he was incredibly invested in Kayla (which unbeknownst to him was Amy attempting to get back at Danny), despite the fact that he hasn't spoken or seen the person he's romantically invested in. Upon discovery of Amy's deception, Paul is rather calm despite being lied to, and even remarks how attractive she is in person. It is also worth noting that he proceeded to seduce Amy whilst being fully aware she was not only married, but also a mother of one, which shows a lack of boundaries. He is shown to be understanding and caring towards Amy's struggles with work and life, charming her with his tenderness and authenticity, two large aspects of her life she found herself missing. Later, after they sleep together, Paul asks her for money in an insulting manner, causing her to decline. He then disrespectfully states she could have declined "without being a bitch", to which she angrily kicks him out of her house, causing the end of his relationship with Amy and the end of her affair with Paul. 8 months later, however, Danny reveals to Paul her duplicity, so he then drives to her home and exposes Amy's affair to her husband. This causes George to divorce with Amy, also showing how vindictive Paul is when he feels he's been wronged.
